Shu Han

Their side

Shu Han was a state founded by Liu Bei during the Three Kingdoms period. Its official name was Han, but it is commonly known as Shu Han. In 211, the sixteenth year of the Jian’an era, Liu Bei entered Yi Province at Liu Zhang’s invitation. He later turned against Liu Zhang and seized the province, joining Zhuge Liang and others in besieging Chengdu. After Chengdu was pacified, Liu Bei appointed Zhuge Liang General of the Household and entrusted him with the affairs of the Left General’s Office. In 221, the first year of the Zhangwu era, Liu Bei proclaimed himself emperor in Chengdu and made Liu Shan crown prince. In 223, Liu Bei died, and Liu Shan succeeded him in Chengdu at the age of seventeen. Zhuge Liang was entrusted with assisting the government, serving as chancellor and overseeing both internal and external affairs. Shu Han’s rule was based in Yi Province, and it remained at war with Cao Wei. Zhuge Liang once led an expedition south, pacifying four commanderies in Nanzhong and reorganizing the local commandery and county administrative divisions. Thereafter, Shu’s forces continued to pursue northern campaigns. In 263, the Wei court ordered Deng Ai, Zhong Hui, and others to invade Shu along separate routes, planning an attack on Ba and Shu.
