Zhuge Xuan

Zhuge Xuan was appointed by Yuan Shu as governor of Yuzhang in the late Eastern Han dynasty, and later sought refuge with Liu Biao, governor of Jing Province; in Chapter 36 of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, he is depicted fleeing turmoil with Zhuge Liang and going to seek refuge with Liu Biao.^[1][2]

Deeds

The Records of the Three Kingdoms states that Zhuge Xuan was appointed governor of Yuzhang by Yuan Shu and set out there with Zhuge Liang and Zhuge Jun. After the court appointed Zhu Hao to replace him, Zhuge Xuan went to seek refuge with Liu Biao, with whom he had old ties (historical record).^[1]
Pei Songzhi’s annotation, citing Spring and Autumn of Emperor Xian, says that Liu Biao once submitted a memorial recommending Zhuge Xuan as governor of Yuzhang. After Liu Yao requested troops, Zhu Hao attacked Zhuge Xuan, who retreated and encamped at Xicheng. In the second year of Jian’an, the people of Xicheng rebelled, killed Zhuge Xuan, and sent his head to Liu Yao (historical record).^[1]
Chapter 36 of Romance of the Three Kingdoms depicts Zhuge Xuan, who had old ties with Liu Biao, taking Zhuge Liang to seek refuge with Liu Biao. Zhuge Xuan later died, after which Zhuge Liang and Zhuge Jun farmed in Nanyang (novel).^[2]
