In authoritative histories such as the Records of the Three Kingdoms, no biography or clear record of any deeds of a figure named "Liu Cheng" can be found. In the Novel
As a chaptered historical novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms often shapes its characters by blending historical truth with literary imagination. Surprisingly, however, in this monumental work too, no figure named "Liu Cheng" appears. Neither the novel's main storyline nor the many interwoven side stories mention this person.
