Ruan Wu of Chenliu in Wei served as Qinghe governor and was known for urging Du Shu to write and being recommended by Lu Yu.

青龍二年，入爲侍中。先是，散骑常侍劉劭受诏定律，未就。毓上论古今科律之意，以爲法宜一正，不宜有两端，使奸吏得容情。及侍中高堂隆數以宫室事切諫，帝不悦，毓进曰：「臣聞君明則臣直，古之圣王恐不聞其过，故有敢諫之鼓。近臣尽規，此乃臣等所以不及隆。隆諸生，名爲狂直，陛下宜容之。」在职三年，多所驳争。诏曰：「官人秩才，圣帝所難，必须良佐，进可替否。侍中毓禀性贞固，心平体正，可謂明试有功，不懈于位者也。其以毓爲吏部尚書。」使毓自選代，曰：「得如卿者乃可。」毓舉常侍郑冲，帝曰：「文和，吾自知之，更舉吾所未聞者。」乃舉阮武、孫邕，帝於是用邕。

Ruan Wu, courtesy name Wenye, was from Chenliu and a Wei figure. He appears in Records of the Three Kingdoms, volumes 16 and 22; he does not appear in the novel.
Deeds
Ruan Wu once served as Administrator of Qinghe. Later, he and Du Shu both resigned from the post of廷尉; while in Zhangwu, he urged Du Shu to devote himself to writing. Du Shu then composed eight sections of Treatise on Substance and one essay, Treatise on Nature. (Recorded in the historical sources)
Emperor Ming ordered Minister of Personnel Lu Yu to recommend someone to succeed him. Lu Yu recommended Ruan Wu and Sun Yong, but Emperor Ming ultimately appointed Sun Yong. (Recorded in the historical sources)
In the fourth year of Jia ping, Ruan Wu died at his place of exile. (Recorded in the historical sources)
